About this calculation
BMR is the number of calories your body needs at complete rest just to maintain basic functions — it doesn't include any activity. The Mifflin-St Jeor equation (1990) is widely regarded as more accurate than older formulas for most adults.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between BMR and daily calorie needs?
BMR is calories burned at complete rest. Your actual daily calorie needs are higher, since they also account for activity, digestion, and movement throughout the day.
Why does the calculator say my input is invalid?
Age, height, and weight must all be positive numbers — check that you've filled in every visible field for your chosen unit system.
What are the activity levels based on?
They're the standard Harris-Benedict/Mifflin activity multipliers used throughout nutrition science: BMR is multiplied by a factor from 1.2 (little or no exercise) up to 1.9 (very hard exercise or a physical job) to estimate the calories needed per day to maintain your current weight at that activity level.
