1. Introduction

CalcEditor is an educational scientific calculator application for Android that provides a collection of mathematical and scientific tools designed to support learning and everyday use. This Privacy Policy explains how information related to the use of the app is handled, and how privacy and locally stored data are protected on the user's device.

Summary: CalcEditor is designed to work entirely on your device. No personal information or calculation results are collected, sold, shared, or transmitted to external servers or third parties.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

CalcEditor does not collect, store remotely, or transmit the following:

  • Your name, email address, phone number, or any personal identifier
  • Your calculation inputs, history, or results
  • Your BMI, health, or fitness data entered into the app
  • Images or photos you select for local text recognition
  • Device identifiers, advertising IDs, or analytics events
  • Location data (precise or approximate)
  • Contacts, calendar data, messages, or browsing history
  • Crash reports or diagnostic telemetry sent to our servers

No account is required to use CalcEditor. CalcEditor has no login, registration, or account system.

3. Information Stored Locally on Your Device

CalcEditor stores the following data on your device only, using Android’s standard local storage (SharedPreferences):

DataPurposeStorage
Calculation historyLet you review past calculationsLocal, on-device
App settings and preferencesRemember your theme, angle mode, and other settingsLocal, on-device
Selected calculator stateResume your last sessionLocal, on-device

This data is not accessible by us or transmitted to any server. It remains on your device until:

  • You clear the app’s data (Settings → Apps → CalcEditor → Clear Data), or
  • You uninstall the app.

We do not maintain any remote backup, account sync, or cloud storage of this data.

4. Camera and Gallery Access

CalcEditor may request access to your device camera or photo gallery if you choose to use the local text recognition (OCR) feature to scan a printed mathematical expression.

What happensDetail
Access scopeUser-initiated only. You must actively open the OCR feature and select a source (camera or gallery).
ProcessingThe selected image is processed on your device using Google ML Kit Text Recognition.
No uploadThe image and any extracted text are not uploaded to CalcEditor servers or any cloud OCR service in this version.
RetentionThe app does not permanently store selected images. Images are used only for the immediate recognition session.
DeclineIf you decline camera or gallery permission, all other calculator functions remain fully available.

Cloud OCR (Google Vision / MathPix) is not available in CalcEditor v1. No images are uploaded to cloud OCR services in this version.

5. Internet Access, Google ML Kit Model Downloads, and Currency Exchange Rates

CalcEditor uses the internet for two limited, specific purposes. It does not operate its own backend server and does not intentionally transmit calculation, personal, or identifying data through either purpose below.

5.1 Google ML Kit Text Recognition

CalcEditor uses Google ML Kit Text Recognition, a Google on-device machine-learning SDK.

  • The app includes the INTERNET permission, which is used so that Google ML Kit can download and update its on-device text-recognition model files when a network connection is available.
  • No calculation data, expression text, images, or personal information from CalcEditor is transmitted during this process.
  • The model download is a one-time or infrequent background operation controlled by the ML Kit SDK.
  • Google’s own privacy practices for ML Kit apply to model download and update operations. Please review Google’s Privacy Policy for information about Google’s data practices.

5.2 Currency Exchange Rate Updates (Unit Converter — Currency)

CalcEditor’s Unit Converter includes an optional Currency category. If you view or refresh live currency exchange rates, the app requests current rates from ExchangeRate-API, a service operated by AYR Tech (Pty) Ltd, using its free/open-access endpoint.

What happensDetail
Access scopeTriggered by your update setting (manual refresh, on app open, or on opening the Currency screen) or by manually requesting a refresh.
Data sentOnly a standard HTTPS request to ExchangeRate-API’s server. As with any internet request, this inherently exposes your device’s IP address to that server. CalcEditor does not attach your calculations, history, identity, or any other app data to this request.
Data receivedCurrent currency exchange rate values only, used to update the rates shown in the Currency converter.
Caching / offline useRates are cached on your device. If a live update is unavailable, the app uses the last cached rates or built-in default rates. You may also enter your own custom rates.
Attribution“Rates by ExchangeRate-API” is shown in the app, linking to ExchangeRate-API’s documentation, per that provider’s attribution request.
DeclineIf you never open or refresh the Currency category, no request is made to ExchangeRate-API. All other calculator functions remain fully available regardless.

ExchangeRate-API’s own terms and privacy practices apply to its handling of incoming API requests; see ExchangeRate-API’s Terms of Service & Privacy Policy.

CalcEditor itself does not operate a backend server and does not intentionally transmit user content over the internet through either the ML Kit or currency-rate connections described above.

6. Accelerometer and Device Sensors

CalcEditor may access your device’s accelerometer sensor for certain local interactive features (for example, orientation or display adaptation). This sensor data is processed locally on your device and is not transmitted to us or any third party.

7. Analytics, Advertising, and Crash Reporting

CalcEditor does not include analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, tracking SDKs, or crash-reporting SDKs that collect or transmit user data to us or third parties.

No advertising, behavioral profiling, cross-app tracking, or data monetization occurs.

If this changes in a future version, this policy will be updated and we will notify users accordingly.

8. Third-Party Services

CalcEditor v1 does not use Google Cloud Vision, MathPix, Firebase, AdMob, Google Analytics, Crashlytics, or similar cloud or analytics services. ExchangeRate-API is a currency-rate data service only; it is not an analytics, advertising, or tracking service.

9. Health and Statistics Disclaimers

CalcEditor includes tools for BMI, BMR, calorie estimation, and statistical calculations. These tools are provided for educational and informational purposes only.

  • Health tools (BMI/BMR/calories): Results are general informational estimates. They are not medical advice, clinical assessments, or professional health guidance. Consult a qualified healthcare professional before making any health or dietary decisions.
  • Statistics tools: Results depend on the quality of your inputs and on statistical assumptions. They are not professional, clinical, financial, or legal advice. Do not use statistical outputs from this app as the sole basis for professional or consequential decisions.

No health or statistical data you enter is stored beyond your current session or transmitted from your device.

10. Children’s Privacy

CalcEditor is an educational calculator application. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under the applicable age in your jurisdiction). Because CalcEditor does not collect any personal information from any user, this requirement is inherently satisfied. If you believe a child has used the app in a way that raises a concern, please contact us.

11. Data Security

Because CalcEditor does not transmit user data to our servers, the primary security consideration is the security of your local device storage.

  • Local data (history, settings) is stored using Android’s standard SharedPreferences and is subject to Android’s standard application sandboxing protections.
  • We recommend keeping your device operating system and applications up to date.
  • We do not have access to data stored on your device.

12. Data Retention and Deletion

DataRetentionDeletion
Calculation historyOn device until cleared by user or uninstallClear via app settings, or uninstall the app
App preferences/settingsOn device until cleared or uninstallSettings → Apps → CalcEditor → Clear Data, or uninstall
Images used for OCRNot permanently stored by the appNot applicable — images are not retained

There is no account to delete because there is no account system. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as CalcEditor’s features evolve (for example, if a future version adds analytics or cloud features). When we update the policy:

  • We will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this document.
  • If the hosted policy URL changes, we will update the link inside the app.
  • For significant changes (for example, introducing data collection), we will provide notice through the app or store update notes.

We recommend checking this page periodically. Continued use of the app after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

14. Your Rights

Because CalcEditor does not collect personal data, most data-subject rights (access, correction, portability, erasure requests to us) are not applicable in the traditional sense. You control all locally stored data directly on your device.

If you are a resident of a jurisdiction with specific privacy rights (for example, GDPR, CCPA) and have questions about how they apply to CalcEditor, please contact us.

As of the current release build, CalcEditor’s Android manifest does not declare CAMERA, READ_MEDIA_IMAGES, or similar photo/camera permissions. The local text-recognition (OCR) feature’s camera and gallery access is handled through the standard Android picker and camera app flows provided by the image_picker plugin, which do not require these permissions to be declared directly by CalcEditor on supported Android versions.

CalcEditor does not request location, contacts, microphone, Bluetooth, or other sensitive permissions beyond those listed above.

All optional features (OCR, live currency rates) leave every other calculator feature fully available if you never use them.
